Pre and Post Care Instructions for Medi-Beauty Treatments
At Gee Beauty we offer a customized selection of result-driven medical-beauty treatments to address various skin concerns and goals. These treatments include IPL (Intense Pulse Light), Micro-needling, and Laser Resurfacing. In order to properly care for your skin leading up to treatment and post treatment, our Medi-Beauty Managers Anna and Jessica have outlined the care instructions for optimal results!
Pre Medi-Beauty Treatment
One week prior to your medical-beauty treatment it is important to discontinue use of all alpha and beta hydroxy products (AHA/BHA), hydroquinone, retinols, or any form of chemical exfoliation. Active ingredients compromises the skin’s sensitivity to medical-beauty treatments which ultimately results in stronger vulnerability to sun exposure. Active ingredients in the skin can also create a chemical or physical reaction to treatments which can result in dryness, redness, purging, and peeling.
If you have Botox or dermal fillers, we require you to wait 14 days before and after injections to to receive any medical-beauty treatments. Having a treatment before the filler properly sets can result it in moving.Â
If you are prone to cold sores, it is highly recommended to take an antiviral medication (such as Valtrex) prior to your treatment. Clients with active cold sores will have to be rescheduled so as not to irritate or spread the cold sore.Â
We require clients to avoid UV exposure 7 days prior to your treatment. Clients who are sunburned or tanned must wait 2 weeks before being treated to avoid compromising the skin as light-based treatments can overly stimulate melanin production resulting in thermal injury such as tissue reactions and burns. This also includes sunless tanning products. If you do have sunless tanner on the skin, we recommend using a gentle physical exfoliator to remove any residual colour.
We ask that clients who are taking antibiotics consult with their physician prior to receiving treatments as they can increase photosensitivity.Â
Post Medi-Beauty Treatment
After every medi-beauty treatment at Gee Beauty you are provided with a post-care kit with sample size products to treat your skin for the following week. It is important to use these medical-grade products as they have been approved and selected with post-treatment skin in mind.Â
When having a medical-beauty treatment there are 3 days of social downtime, meaning the skin will be red, often looking as if you have a sunburn. Makeup can be worn 24 hours after treatment. We recommend mineral-based makeup that is oil, chemical, and fragrance-free. All Gee Beauty makeup is mineral based!
Immediately following treatment, your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun. It is important to wear Vitamin C and sunscreen everyday to protect your skin and prevent any future damage from forming. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week following treatment as well as tanning beds or any other light-based treatments.Â
You may also experience excess of heat in the skin for 24 hours after treatment. When experiencing heat, you can use ice packs on the skin for 10 minutes at a time every hour. Avoid taking hot showers and high intensity exercise as this can produce a lot of body heat and sweat.Â
It’s important to avoid heat post treatment as it can create an increase of inflammation and produce discomfort. Heat that is trapped in the skin can cause skin reactions like blisters. You also want to avoid any kind of irritation to the skin, that includes waxing, threading, and tweezing the eyebrows or face.Â
Avoid using any retinoids as your skin has just experienced a deep exfoliation and active ingredients will further increase sensitivity to the sun.Â
For the next 3 days following your medical-beauty treatment it is important that you do not touch the skin as doing so can introduce bacteria. Skin post-treatment has been thoroughly cleansed and the skin is actively regenerating new skin cells by detoxifying, increasing blood flow, and microcirculation. To encourage the cells to metabolize, it’s recommended not to interfere with its natural process by avoiding bacteria so it doesn’t create build up, debris, and congestion in the pores.
Following these care instructions will ensure the best results!Â
